Listen To The Truth

December 31 // 1 Corinthians 8:20-21

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. Colossians 2:8

Paul is warning the church about the religous leaders who have deceptive philosophies. These religous leaders used tradtions and customs og society to make up thier own philsophies. These beliefs were not from God nor were the truth, so these religous leaders were leading God's people astray and further away from God. Paul is teaching the church that they should always back up what thier hear with the word of God, so they could discern what is truth and what is a lie. The church seems to be listening to some of the religous leaders and follwing them blindly. The religous leaders teachings seem to sound good, but it was far from the truth. Maybe because the religous leaders were telling the people what they wanted to hear, instead of the truth. And the church needed to know the truth.
Do I hear the truth? Do I teach the truth? I cannot believe what I hear to always be the truth, but to test it against God's word. I must seek and search for myself what is truth from God's word, then to teach what I have learned. I cannot speak or teach what people want to hear, but to always speak the truth. My words must come from God and His word, so that I can lead people to God and to the truth. I have to know God's voice and to study His word in order to know the truth. Otherweise, I will always be led astray and end up on a destructive path.
Heavenly Father thank you for your word. I ask you to help me to know the truth, and not listen to what I want to hear. Help me to know and listen to the truth. In Jesus name. Amen.
