Psalm 111:3,4 (New Living Translation) "Everything He does reveals His glory and majesty, His righteousness never fails.
He causes us to remember His wonderful works. How gracious and merciful is the LORD."
Today has several points of significance to me;
--One, it is our wedding anniversary. Married to my best friend for 14 years today. How she endured me all those years should earn her a medal of courage (smile).
--Two, 13 years ago, on September 3, 1995, a small team of about a hundred or so planned a "test service" for New Hope Oahu, to prepare for the "grand opening" service the following week. About 300 showed up on that Sunday morning...I still remember Pastor Wayne's message, and how much of a hoot we had doing church that morning. When it was done and all packed up (a van and two trucks worth!), no one wanted to leave! We all just kind of stood around and talked story, in awe of what happened, and with hardly a clue of what to expect from that day forward.
As I read this psalm of praise, just a "yay God" kind of moment, I find myself remembering all the things God has done at New Hope within its walls; and what He has done THROUGH New Hope outside of its walls, the impact on the city, and the whole island, and more!
And in all those years...all the ups and downs, the sweet and the bitter..."everything He does reveals His glory and majesty. His righteousness never fails."
I don't think that 13 years of witnessing God's work unfolding at New Hope was coincidence or happenstance. From the earliest days, Pastor Wayne was leading the drive of the importance of a daily devotion to Christ through the Word of God. Those were the days of black composition notebooks and hand-drawn lines for Table of Contents and Prayer Lists! (smile)
Verse 7 of this psalm says that "...all His commandments are trustworthy." Like the marriage vows I took 14 years ago, God's commandments, His precepts, His directives, have one thing in common; they are EFFECTIVE if I OBEY them, and I must keep reminding myself to OBEY them.
I have my wife to remind me of my vows (smile), and my daily devotions and journal are my constant companion and reminder about how trustworthy and true His commandments are, and causes me to remember His works and wonders in our little community of faith called New Hope.
Lord Jesus, as the celebration of 13 years of New Hope approaches, thank You. For all the wonderful memories, watching You at work in so many people. For the call You have placed in my life individually, and for the assignment You gave New Hope, collectively. But most of all, for Your grace and mercy You have given all of us because You love us.
What more can I do but thank You with all of my heart. I love You Jesus!
p.s.; Oh, and thank You for 14 great years of being married! Good save.
