Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

Richard Waialeale

"As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peaceóbut now it is hidden from your eyes." (Luke 19:41- 42)
We are living in a time in history that calls us as believers in Jesus Christ to take a stand with Israel and to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Every year on the first Sunday of October, all over the world, we are called to pray for a place where the Gospels first started and became available not only for the Jews but for everyone.
Jesus in these scriptures, prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem and how the people did not recognize the time of God's coming to them. The compassion of Jesus for Jerusalem foretold of the days to come when it would lie in ruins because of the destruction by the Roman soldiers (A. D. 70).
Jesus wept over the city because its people didn't understand the significance of what was about to happen on that day, which has now become a national day of acceptance of Him that would bring peace.
Each year at this time we are called to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, as a reminder for us today, as to where it all started and where we get the Word of God. One of the primary issues will be "Who is for Christ and His way and who isn't?" The Lord has called us to be a people who will touch people and will stand with moral and biblical convictions for critical issues...and this is one.
Pray Psalm 122 and Isaiah 62 teach us to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" and give Him no rest until He establishes Jerusalem as a praise in the earth. Our prayers for Jerusalem should be regular and persistent. Pray for both Jew and Arab alike, and for all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. Specifically pray for religious and political leaders, oppressed women and children victims of terror, believers in the Land, and the young generation of Israelis and Arab Palestinians.
Father in Heaven, in obedience to Your Word, I pray for the peace of Jerusalem and the Land of Israel. Bless the people of Israel with Your promise of redemption, shield them with Your love, and bring them renewed hope for their day of salvation. Guide Israel's leaders and advisors with the light of Your truth. In Jesus Name I Pray. Amen.
