Go Team Go!

John Tilton

"Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests went to work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate. They dedicated it and set its doors in place, building as far as the Tower of the Hundred, which they dedicated, and as far as the Tower of Hananel. The men of Jericho built the adjoining section, and Zaccur son of Imri built next to them... Then the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten times over, "Wherever you turn, they will attack us." Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows. After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, "Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes." When our enemies heard that we were aware of their plot and that God had frustrated it, we all returned to the wall, each to his own work." (Nehemiah 3:1-2 & 4:13-15)
Nehemiah was saddened by the wall of Jerusalem being broken down and its' gates burnt due to the sins and disobedience of the Jewish people causing the exile and subsequent devastation of Jerusalem. Their enemies thought that such a task would be impossible. However, Nehemiah's intent was that a team effort by all of the people taking part could accomplish their vision of rebuilding the wall and the gates. Ah! Teamwork!

Then, what ensued was that the people proceeded in rebuilding the sections of the wall in front of their property, homes, businesses and according to their districts. Thus, they served and worked to care for the areas given to them to do business, to live and minister. Ah! They stewarded what was theirs!

Then, when their enemies began attacking, their plan of some focusing on the rebuilding while others focused on protection of the people against their enemies was implemented. Ah! Planning & Organization to multitask!

Even those who were not skilled in building and manual labor jumped in to learn and participate such as the goldsmiths and merchants. Ah! One doesn't need to be skilled first in order to jump in to serve and work!

These chapters and verses show such great planning, organization and teamwork by Nehemiah and the people.
Some of us from our New Hope directional team just had the honor and pleasure of representing New Hope by speaking at a conference on the mainland. It was such a fulfilling opportunity and experience to be called upon to speak and teach on behalf of New Hope and what God is doing in our ministry. Furthermore, it was gratifying and encouraging to see that Doing Church as a Team is such an inspiring concept to many leaders and churches in being a proven vision and plan by God given to Pastor Wayne. Like Nehemiah and the people of Jerusalem, we all come with our gifts and passions to serve and work side-by-side. We do our best when we are focusing in the areas God gave us to steward. And there are others that God has assigned in our ministry to stand and protect us by covering us in shepherding and prayer defending us from the enemy. We also have learned at New Hope that one doesn't have to be super-skilled in an area of ministry in order to jump in. One just has to have the passion and heart to serve, and then be equipped and shadow to preach the gospel the best way one knows how. Some times, its nice to step out of the forest so that we can see the beautiful work of God that we are a part of, and thus, appreciate God's hand on our life and guidance in what we do to serve Him, thereby investing into the legacy we leave and our small but significant part in building God's Kingdom.
Thank you Lord for giving Pastor Wayne the amazing vision of Doing Church as a Team, including leading us in putting in to action the plan, organization and execution of the vision. It's so fulfilling and gratifying to see what you have done and how we now have an opportunity to inspire others in other churches and ministries about Doing Church as a Team. Thank you for the honor and privilege to be used by you in serving, leading, speaking and teaching your awesome plan for us to take your Gospel forth preaching it the best way we know how with the gifts and talents you've given us. May new servants continue to catch the vision, and may we as current leaders and new leaders step up to the plate to do our part so that we can continue your great work.
