You Still Lack One Thing!

Rod Shimabukuro

"When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." (Luke 18:22)
Riches are not the only thing that can hold us back from complete surrender to the Lord. Although riches clenched a rich rulers heart, who even lived out the commandments throughout his life from childhood. He was an outstanding citizen and temple/church goer...but one thing was lacking.

What one thing is lacking in my life? Not to gain eternal life, as was the case for this ruler - but in order to gain a richer relationship with Jesus? What am I holding onto that keeps me from abundant living?
I'm doing my devotions fairly consistently, loving my wife and kids, providing for them, working hard to serve God and people as a pastor, trying to take care of my health. I feel like I'm doing pretty good with Jesus. Until I feel an internal struggle in my soul when I ask myself the questions above.

There's one thing (amongst other things) I'm lacking to live a closer, deeper, stronger, more abundant life with Jesus.

I confess that One thing Lord I'm lacking in this season of my life - - - FEAR!
Fear that my children will not live a passionate, Godly life, following Jesus with all their heart the rest of their lives. I'm seeign so many people turn their backs on Jesus from teens to older folks.

I know - God hasn't given me a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. But I allow fear to take a seat in my mind - I wrestle with this fear too long in my thought life.

Today - I will live differently by:
1...taking these thoughts captive - IMMEDIATELY, into the obedience of Christ centered thoughts and faith.
2...also by expressing more faith through my words, with my boys in particular. Faith in them as men after God's heart, lovers of His WOrd - knowing that the decision to choose Jesus is ultimately theirs. But I have faith in Jesus and the heart He has given me to pray believing in God for Kingdom answers!
Forgive me for my fear Lord. Thanks for understanding and being so patient, gracious and enduring with me. Thank You for the faith You've given me in my heart - to believe Your work, hands and heart towards your kids - Malia, Kai and Koa. I love them and thanks for calling them to Yourself!
